DAVIES, Sir William Llewelyn (1887-1952) National Library of Wales 1919-1952 (CL 1930)
John Ballinger, first librarian of NLW and Davies's immediate predecessor, had understandably concentrated most on the essential accumulation of book stock. Davies administered the second stage by collecting and preserving mss and documentary records relating to Wales and then by making them readily available and accessible. He was responsible for collecting, from many sources, at least three million documents. Prior to his NLW appointment he had been a teacher.
